To Email or Not to Email.jpg

Unfortunately, I now receive so many emails that I am required, in academic fashion, to say that the answers are in the syllabus. Please consider this flowchart before emailing!

Here are some of the important recent updates to studio policies:

  • For ordinary schedule changes that do not require significant notice (i.e. quitting lessons, taking an extended leave of absence, or extraordinary situations of some kind), please modify your schedule using the My Music Staff Portal rather than emailing or texting me.

  • If you have questions about practicing or repertoire during the week, please see if you can resolve these questions yourself using resources on this website (or on linked sites). You are also welcome to discuss all questions with me at the next lesson. I highly recommend keeping a list of questions to bring to lessons each week; this can even be in your or your child’s spiral-bound notebook. It is best to discuss all questions within lesson times rather than over email.

  • All scheduling and billing are through My Music Staff as of June 2025. If you need your login information to be re-sent, please notify me by email.

  • Tuition is paid monthly and is post-paid. Invoices for the previous month are automatically sent on the first day of each month based upon the number of lessons in the previous month. Tuition for the previous month is due by the 15th day of each month. (For example, if a student has four lessons in September, then they will receive an invoice for 4 lessons on October 1; this invoice will be due on October 15.) You may use the automatic payment feature in the My Music Staff portal if you like, but this is not required; the auto-invoicing works regardless of whether payment is also automated. Payment via PayPal, Venmo, or check after receiving the invoice is also accepted. A 5% late fee is applied to all invoices if they are paid more than 7 days past the due date (the 15th day of the month).

About Tuition

Where does my tuition go? How does it benefit the student? Here is a quick guide provided by the Music Teachers National Association. Included in the cost of lessons are 10-15 hours per week of administrative work and lesson preparation, building rental fees, teaching supplies, and paid time off.

Thank you!
