Music Lessons in Corvallis, OR

Ellie believes that art is for everyone. She is committed to developing the talent of students of all ages, all abilities, all socioeconomic classes, and all cultural backgrounds. Teaching is her main focus. Ellie is passionate about helping each student achieve their goals and realize their musical ideas. Whether you have hours to practice or only a few minutes here and there, lessons with Ellie are designed for you.

Ellie is certified through Suzuki Association of the Americas for Suzuki Violin Book 1 (2017), and is well-versed in all Suzuki violin and viola books. She has taught violin, viola, and beginning piano for the past 12 years and also has experience teaching group classes. Ellie’s string pedagogy includes the Suzuki method, traditional classical methods, fiddle, and popular music. On piano, Ellie primarily teaches Faber method, but also incorporates popular music. Ear training, music theory, and Alexander technique are all central components of lessons on each instrument.

Lessons are structured dialectically and are rooted in students’ curiosity. In lessons, students use their senses to awaken awareness of sound and the body’s relationship to sound. From this awareness, students are guided in asking questions about music itself, and about producing sound through the body and the instrument. The aim of lessons is empowering students to express their ideas and emotions through music, through a process of cultivating gentle and patient self-awareness. The process of learning is liberation through reflection and gradual understanding of how to teach oneself. Ellie guides students through difficult questions to ultimately reach more flow and less struggle with the instrument, resulting in more connection to the music itself.

Tuition for lessons is $60 per hour or $30 per half-hour lesson. Scholarships are available for low-income students upon request. All lessons are generously hosted by First Baptist Church Corvallis.
